Rationale: Drama education gives young people the opportunity to explore a variety of human experiences through acting out stories, plays, and scenes. These students will be encouraged to voice their individuality and recognize and respect their classmates’ ideas and experiences. In addition, students will explore the world of theatre, in order to develop a greater appreciation for the dramatic arts. Finally, when students participate in theatre and drama classes, they connect with their peers and expand their awareness of who they are and the world around them.
Course Description: In drama we focus on several goals from The North Carolina Standard Course of Study and The Essential Standards of Theatre. Some of these goals include the exploration, practice, and understanding of:
· Appropriate audience etiquette
· Pantomime
· Improvisation
· Characterization
· Stage Movement
· Acting fundamentals
· Playwriting
· Theatre History
· Critiquing peer and self
· Technical Theatre
